Review of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Karen, you sound ignorant
Star Rating - 8/29/2006
Karen, I don't want to pretend to know you but based on your post you come across as completely ignorant. Have you ever lived anywhere outside your "white trash" neighborhood? I was born in Pittsburgh suburbs, moved and lived in Florida, Atlanta, Detroit, Cleveland and Chicago. I have traveled to almost every major US city. Pittsburgh is definitely not a "racist" city. In fact, I am offended that you would post this here as a blanket statement. I am not racist. I am not homophobic and neither are people in my family or circle of friends who live or have lived in Pittsburgh. I NEVER saw a white power sign in someone's yard. I never saw someone harassed in a store. I am not saying it never happens but you make it sound like it happens all the time in every establishment around town.

Grow up. Making blanket statements makes you sound very unintelligent and, shall I say, like "white trash."

Pittsburgh is a great and friendly city that has a problem attracting young people because of the job market. The night life scene is improving and it is a great city to raise a family if you can find a decent career. I grew up in Moon Township and lived on Mt. Washington and Castle Shannon for years (with family all over the city and suburbs). I would move back in a second if I could talk my wife into it!

Let me tell you, you should feel lucky you don't live in Detroit (where I currently do!)

I'm sorry, I have to respond to this one!!! My wife is Brazilian/Portugese and is a successful Entrepreneur. Since we moved here she has been referred to as "Mexican", questionably stared at(probably because she is more attractive that 99% of the local women) and one time asked if, she cleaned houses!!! A co-worker of mine who is Japanese is commonly referred to as Chinese and as for the homophobia, well they're not beating them in the streets just yet but they're also not welcome. Wasn't it Mayor Murphy who declined Queer As Folk from fiming here for fear of giving the city a reputation??? So maybe you're right, Pittsburghers are not racists, just uneducated and ignorant. They think all Latinos are Mexican and Asians are Chinese, not that either group has any significant numbers and all that remains of Chinatown is a single restaurant on 3rd Avenue. Oh and there is a White Supremacy emblem on a house about a mile from us in of all places you have listed, Castle Shannon!!! ... but we haven't encountered any cross burnings :-)
