Review of Tucson, Arizona

Hemingway was right, "it's all true".

Having migrated from San Diego via Reston,Va to a Tucson suburb (Marana), I'm still baffled by Tucsons complete lack of leadership and planning from it's municipal government. I'm fortunate to live in the wonderful planned community Dove Mountain. We're 20 miles north of downtown and that's about as close as I care to be to Tucson's crime ridden metro area. Enough has been said here about the abysmal education, transportation, and water problems...but not enough has been mentioned about the 800lb gorilla in the corner. The massive and uncontrolled influx of illegal immegrants from the south has long sense overwhelmed most public services, especially health care, law enforcement, and public education. Before you dismiss me as a bigot you should know that I grew up in a mixed area of San Diego and many of my best friends were latino. I have enormous respect for their work ethic, respect for family, and attitude of "mi casa es su casa". Our government's reprehensable refusal to make a serious effort to stop the tidle wave north, and protect the innocents from dying in the desert of thirst and heat stroke, abuse from all directions, and exploitation by unscrupulous employers, will go down in history as one of our most shamefull mistakes. Unfortunatly, Tucson is in the funnel that points north.
So...move to greater Tucson if you don't mind living behind bolted doors, driving in horrible traffic, waiting eight hours in a hospital emergency room to see a doctor, and spending a fortune to send your kids to a private school.
Or...move to one of Tucson's terriffic burbs and live the good life in the beautiful Sonoran Desert.
