We love it here

I've lived in Tucson for 10 years now (coming down for college and then staying here). With the exception of bad job market, we love it here. I read about lack of neighborliness and I think that depends on where you live in the town. I live in a community (Civano) that prides itself in its small town feel. We have community picnics, 4th of July parades, Easter egg hunts, a small community charter school. We may have some property crime, but overall I feel safe. I love raising my kids in this neighborhood. We also have beautiful mountain views and excellent weather. I came from the midwest and now when I go visit, I get gloomy with so little sunshine. When people complain about the heat of the summer, i just compare it to the cold of northern winters. Up there you don't go out in the winter, here you don't go out much in the summer except to swim. The beauty of Tucson is somewhat an acquired taste, but once you really start to explore I think you will love it. You can't beat our sunsets! I agree that some of the tract housing going in is taking away from the flavor of Tucson and that we have major transportation issues, but it still doesn't take more than 30-40 minutes to get just about anywhere in Tucson (and I live on the very far eastside) We have lots of hiking trails and with the weather so nice, you can exercise outside yearlong (walk all winter, spring and fall and swim in the summer). The natural wildlife is amazing too. We are very happy here.
