Review of Tucson, Arizona

Lived here off and on 30 years & currently

Tucson is a beautiful city. It is growing way too fast and the roads have trouble keeping up but folks vote down any high speed hwys. That's okay, it's still better than any other city roads I have lived with. Unlike the poster who felt it was just dusty ranches and run down housing, I'll bet he didn't get too far off the interstate or south side. Multi million dollar houses all the way to master planned communities in tight neighborhoods exist. It is true there are very few black people here. Mostly all whites (anglo and hispanic combined). I don't think the city is racist at all, I think that it's just the way it is here. Only real prejudice is with illegal entrants and the resources they use up unpaid. Though life is so bad in Mexico they will risk death to come here. Like the Cubans in Miami when I lived there.
Tucson school disctrict is not the best, but I live outside city limits as a huge number do and we have an all excelling school district. So you can find it, it just depends where you live. Many charter schools, poor in private schools. It is not a big fancy city and you can go almost anywhere in jeans and flip flops. I love I can have horses and goats on my land and still be 10 minutes to the local strip mall. Summer is awful and about 5 months long. I feel bad when school is out the kids spend most of the day indoors and only go out early morn or in the evening. But while others are freezing and indoors all winter we are outdoors enjoying. An hour north and you are on top of the mountain and a 30-40 degree temp. drop. I have virtually no yard work. But I do miss grass.
Don't move here. There are already enough people and we want to keep it all to ourselves. Visit in March with all the other tourists and then go home.
