Review of Wethersfield, Connecticut

Old Wethersfield CT
Star Rating - 6/10/2007
Like a New England post card, this 3 sq mile Historic District is also a great cultural district. Museums, B&Bs, home to the Historical Society, historic churches and graveyards and one of the oldest volunteer fire services im the nation. Several parks and lots of people walk or ride bikes. Home are mostly over 100 years old, some materially older and mostly well built and well kept private residences. A short communte to Hartford (this can be a negative, too) and surprisingly affordable for this part of the country and for what you get. Neighbors are typically great: helpful, friendly, respectful. Many families have lived here for generations. Few leave. If you outgrow your house (or want to downsize), you just wait until the right one comes available (you often know by word of mouth) a couple of blocks away. House sizes range from small capes, dutch colonials and craftsmen homes (on the younger side: 50-85 years old) to mansions. Because it is an Historic neighborhood, there are limtations on what you can do to your house. This can be a pain, but it also assures that there are no fushia houses. It also helps assure that buyers are committed to fixing or maintaining a property. see www.historicwethersfield.org I',m a non parent, but schools are OK. PS I'm from Texas and have lived in New England 20 years.
