I was born in Norton about 10 miles from here. I have been back to this area several times throughout life but never really knew how it was to live here. I always wanted to be raised here but, I am glad I was not.
This is the most unfriendly place that I have ever lived. There are some good people here but, very few. The preachers are pretty much hired to not offend anyone with the words of the Bible and if they do they are fired and find themselves looking for another job.
In turn we have churches nearly full of religious bigots and Pharasees. There are few that are willing to say "Hello" on the streets. They generally look the other way or act like they did not see you. But if they see you in church they will smile and shake your hand then after church you again are not worth the time to be decent to.
Like I say there are some good people here and they are the finest of people anywhere but the town is run by gossips and liars and general consensus is the rule of thumb obeyed by most of the citizens here. It don't matter what the story is or even if it is true it will ruin someone everytime it gets told again by the next person.
I find Almena very quiet though and I don't mind being left alone but, I sure hate to be lied about by those that are suppose to be Christians. I have lived here for over 3 years now and I am still virtually friendless in the area. Not because I haven't tried to befriend others but because of a liar that took the opinion of me down to that of being no good at all.
She writes for the Prairie Dog Press in a column called An Outsiders View. The editor of the PDP is also one that does not care for truth in the writings of the writers and is very unfair to others when she will publish one persons opinion and not the others. I am really sick of the one sided opinion of the paper and no longer write for them.
When I did though I made a difference but, I was edited out so many times that I got sick of it and quit. That just made the people breath a little easier but, they still shy away from me.
