Not My Cup of Tea
Star Rating - 6/13/2018
I lived in W-S for 2 years while my husband was in grad school at Wake Forest. Our first apartment was on the bad side of town where there were strip clubs and bars on every other corner and cops guarding the grocery store exits. We moved to a nicer area over near Bethabara Park, so I got to see both sides of W-S.

First off, W-S is hyper Christian. If you are not a Christian, it is hard to fit in. Second, the roads are horribly designed, Silas Creek Parkway had an on ramp at an on ramp in one spot for a private residence.

When I lived there (2005-2007), the big tobacco culture was still strong. It was not unusual for a company to let people smoke at their desks or to see people smoking in the middle of a McDonalds. That may have changed in the years since, but given the area and how much $ the industry spends there, I assume the culture is still strong.

Why are you on here making false statements? You are lying about the strip clubs, there are only two strip clubs in the whole city and there have NEVER been a lot of strip clubs! Also it is a complete lie about smoking at one's desk or smoking in line at McDonald's! Winston-Salem passed laws back early 2000's banning smoking in a public building, they actually went as far as banning smoking within so many feet of a public establishment! There are a lot of things I don't agree with about the city, but I would not get on here and lie just bash the place. Tell your truths if you have any.

I'm considering purchasing investment rentals, what area/boundaries would you consider favorable?

You must have been a stripper to be surrounded by stripclubs on every corner because if I’m not mistaken there are only 2 stripclubs in Winston-Salem. There’s no need to leave false reviews just because you may have had a difficult time adjusting to the place. Even the ghetto in Winston Salem doesn’t have strip clubs!

I'm much less concerned by the comments of the OP than the replies here. I usually take things on forums with a grain of salt, but the ugliness here was a bit over the top. The reality is, most cities of a certain size have strip clubs and bars. It is rarely a reflection of the entire area – just a subset of patrons. And having more than one of anything makes it plural as noted by the OP and that's all the plural tells you - not the actual number - which as the respondents themselves noted is accurate not a lie. So why the name calling? Not wanting to live near one doesn't make the OP a stripper any more than it makes the respondent a stripper - assuming the respondent does not want to live near one either. (Logically speaking, most people prefer to live near their work not further away. And from a capitalistic point of view if there are no patrons there are no clubs, but the respondents didn't attack the patrons just the person who did not want to live near strip clubs and bars which was also interesting.) All in all, we are far more concerned about the overall civility and courteousness of the people in an area we are looking at than the exact number of places we will never go. Hopefully these responses are not an indication of the norm.
