Review of Norfolk, Nebraska

Job Market
Star Rating - 7/5/2005
Norfolk is a stale job market, two of 5 major employer have or will closing their doors. There is little in the way of industy here. That coupled with being taxed to death Norfolk is a quickly dying town.

I should also mention that with about 25000 people, Norfolk is the biggest town for at least 2 hours in any direction.

Actually, since the Feb. 2005 Tyson closing, Norfolk's job growth has more than replaced the 1,300 Tyson jobs. Norfolk's manufacturing jobs are nearly equal to Columbus' total in that sector and our total non-farm employment exceeds Columbus' by 4,500 jobs. Additionally, regarding taxation, Norfolk has the lowest municipal tax levy among cities of the 1st class in Nebraska. Nucor Steel's four divisions in Norfolk now employ over 1,000 and there are 200 available positions at Nucor Detailing Center.
