Crime For The Inside
Star Rating - 8/20/2009
Ive have been living in bowie sence i was in 6th grade. Im now an 11th grade in bowie high. I have noticed a change threw the years that i have lived here. I got to a school named Bowie High School which is full of gang violence, drugs, grafiti, and the school is falling apart and has alot of distruction to the building. In the areas and sections that i have been around, i have seen drug deals and cars being stolen. In the day the city looks ok but when the sun goes down, its a terrible place to be and it make you want to stay inside. I know mostly all of the people who cause crime and i have to say the things i have herd are terrible. The black community has grown rapidly but thats not what causes the crime its all racisis.

I moved to Bowie at the age of 4 & I've been here for the last 16 years. There was a slight influx of crime, but nothing to make you move out of the neighborhood. I've been here nearly my entire life and have never had problems with gangs, violence, drugs. My motto, about the crime in that area is, "if you don't go looking for it, chances are, it won't come looking for you." As a safety-conscious young woman, I can honestly say that I've ALWAYS felt safe here. If you're looking for a Utopia, Bowie is not the place for you. However, if you're looking for a great suburban place to raise a family, access to great jobs, and access to both rural and urban communities, Bowie is the place for you. Urban areas like DC & Baltimore are just a short distance away. Annapolis is just a few minutes down the road as well as several rural communities (they're a cross of rural and suburban). Like any other town/city, Bowie has pros and cons, but it truly is a great place to live.

There should be an age requirement and a spelling requirement to post comments here.

I agree with the post. Compared to other cities in Prince Georges County go, Bowie is, by far, superior. Sadly, I can't help but notice the horrible spelling and sentence structure of this high school junior (though I am not surprised)! We moved to Bowie from Virginia Beach when my child was in 6th grade. When we moved here, she could write a book report, research paper, etc. as she was required to do so (weekly and age appropriately) from the time she started school. (Does anyone in this school district know what "Writing Workshops" are???) I recall asking her 6th grade Tulip Grove Elem. teacher when I could expect some writing assignments, book reports, etc. and was told "I really don't have time to do that."!!! This way of thinking really didn't change during her high school experience. I blame myself for not pulling her out then but I had hope that this was just one teacher and the next would be better. What I found was this "educator" was the norm not the exception. In hindsight, I suppose I could have quit my job and home-schooled or got a 2nd job to afford private school. I didn't and my child suffered for it. Fortunately, she's a bright kid and was able to turn it all around in college with hard work and relearn the skills she had lost. I hope this 11th grader doesn't give up on herself when she graduates and realizes her high school "edumakashun" left her ill-prepared for higher education. Good luck to her!!
