Wow, this is utter nonsense. I fled the insane crime in Abq (and feel lucky to still be alive after two and half years there, no exaggeration) to come back to Las Cruces, and it is nothing like Abq. Safe, quiet, just a nice city. yes, other cities in the US have crazy crime too, but those are cities like Detroit and Chicago. We're not talking normal here folks. I wouldn't live in Abq if you paid me a million dollars. Again, no exaggeration. Money does you little good if you're maimed or killed. Every day I lived there I would read the newspaper, which intentionally leaves out a LOT of the crime, and could not believe what I was reading. Worse, out on the streets, I could not believe what I was seeing day after day after day. It's a truly dangerous place people. The cartels out of Mexico, or one in particular, run the town, and have for decades. Abq is a distribution point for hard drugs going to the rest of the country. The police are thoroughly out manned and out gunned, and they are as trigger happy as can be. If I told people what I had seen there, they would think I was making it up. The sad thing is how the locals turn a blind eye to all of this. I got out, and there are still some nice places to live in the US. If you vale your life or the lives of your loved ones, you'll get out too while you can. It is only going to get worse because no one really cares there. Hands down the worst place I have ever lived or visited.

Steve, if you are happy back in Cruces, I'm sure we're all glad for you and wish you the best. However, if you live in a city, any city anywhere with a negative attitude and the nagging thought (sure feeling) that today is the day you are going to be the victim of some horrible violent crime, your time in that city isn't going to be pleasant, I don't care where it is. If you choose to maintain your composure and keep a positive outlook on life, Albuquerque can be a great and fun place to live. But it's obviously not for everybody and if your life is better now, more power to you.

If you make the effort to inform yourself of the city's crime patterns you can do much to remove yourself from future crime statistics. For example, if you have a garage, use it as a garage. Don't leave your vehicles exposed as easy and inviting targets for junkies and punks looking for quick cash or thrills. This is common sense anywhere. I have lived in many U.S. cities and two other countries and property crimes occur wherever there are humans. Criminals are lazy and look for quick, easy targets. Make the effort not to attract that sort of attention. If you don't have access to a private garage or can't park in your garage for unavoidable reasons, don't leave property, personally identifying information, garage door openers, or keys in your vehicles.
