We like to say we live in Council Bluffs so we can have access to Omaha, without having to live there! The taxes in Omaha are atrocious, as is the crime rate. The cost of living in Council Bluffs is also significantly less. Don't get me wrong, Council Bluffs also has other charms, including a nice mix of shopping, from big chain stores (like Walmart, Target, Kohls & JC Pennys) to plenty of boutique places tucked in down town and around the city. I would say the same about our dining choices. We are not so small that everyone knows everyone's business, and there is plenty of work. That all said, Omaha is closer than 'running across town' would be in very large cities in the US. So if you commute for work to Omaha, your drive is not going to be more than 20-30 minutes to the far west side of Omaha, and shopping, dining and entertainment are just a hop over the river. So I tell people, c'mon over to the bright side of the river! You won't regret it!
