Lucky I don't need to work and have money enough to never have to work again, but your review put me off Eugene somewhat as a place to go next. I was expecting a more bucolic setting, but that is something contrived in one's head and most always does not meet up with reality.

I've predominantly lived in Eugene since 1979 (California transplant) and work with the homeless population daily. I find this review to be detailed and spot-on across the board. People moving to Eugene without work (and often work falls through for those who thing they have it lined up) or social infrastructure already in place will meet with limited resources to becoming stably situated in Eugene.

What a thorough and well written evaluation of Eugene's pros and cons. I'm a native of 36 years who relocated to Omaha Nebraska fifteen years ago. I have family in Eugene and a son currently attending the University. It saddens me to see the transition that's happened over the last decade. The only thing I disagree with you about is the status of the public school system. It's hideous.
