Review of Greenland, New Hampshire

Pure Heaven!
Star Rating - 2/22/2011
My company moved me and my family up to NH from Tampa, FL for a promotion within the company. Before you think I'm crazy, there is a lot about FL that isn't obvious from the outside. For example, property taxes are high and then you have to pay an incredible Hurricane/Home Owners insurance premium on top of it. Because of a large transient population, infrastructure issues are a constant problem (traffic, over crowding of schools, housing, etc.). It is a beautiful place to live, but there is a dark side too. So, we moved to NH and found a new house in Greenland, NH. It is "pure heaven." The people are friendly and with a population of only 4k, you actually have a say in what is done. There are no state taxes or sales tax. So, property is high, but it's the only tax you pay. Home owners insurance is rediculously low. Yes, the winters are cold and there is quite a bit of snow. If you can get into skiing, sleding, snow shoeing, or enjoying inside activities from Jan. to March, the rest of the year is absolute awesome!!! The spring is wet, but beautiful... and very welcomed! The summers are perfect. Warm days (80s) and comfortable nights (70s). The fall is my favorite. Many great things to do and fun for the whole family. The schools are fantastic. My wife needed significant medical care after we moved up and it was the finest I could ask for. Even though we get a lot of snow in the winter, the roads are totally clear and well cared for. There are great restaurants all around and many things to do. It is great to be near the coast with wonderful seafood and port towns, but you are also only an hour or less from great skiing and hiking in the most beautiful mountains in the US. Greenland is only an hour away from Boston which is easily accessable by both train, bus or I-95. Since we've been up hear, I've experienced more in 3 years than the 10 years I lived in Florida. So, if you don't mind the cold for a few months of the year, you'll be rewarded 10 times over for the remaining months.
