Review of Spokane, Washington

There’s a reason for all the bad reviews
Star Rating - 6/16/2019
There’s a reason there are so many bad reviews... I moved here a couple years ago and was pretty surprised at the ignorance of the people born and raised here. There’s a local pride in Spokane that is admirable and understandable when you’ve spent most or all your life in an area, but as many others stated, this place is disproportionately overridden with drug use, poorly educated and just an overall complacency that makes you wonder why everyone around here settles for such a poor quality of life. Seeing broken out car and building windows, drug use, violence and aggressive behavior downtown during mid day is completely normal here. Hard to put into words some of the things I’ve learned while being here but compared to many other areas, 2 stars is plenty for Spokane.

Spokane is "The Pits". There are no social interactions in Spokane. There are no good areas unless your idea of a "good area" would be boarded up houses and pit bulls roaming the streets attacking anybody on sight. There are absolutely no good reasons to go to these "Malls" for that matter unless you want to see homeless camps and unsafe drug dealings in the area. Trouble-makers are widespread. People don't say hi or smile at each other in friendly ways. Graffiti is widespread. You won't get a welcoming vibe if you check out downtown. Why doesn't the city get involved to have a better education curriculum? Don't come to Spokane if you are a good, reliable, and hard-working person. This place is really the pits.

Moved here with my wife and two kids from San Diego in 1996 and still really enjoy the place. Find people friendlier and more down to earth then most places. After gone back to San Diego a few times and other then the mild weather do not see us ever moving back.Yes there is a homeless problem but most cities I have been to have the same problem.

I agree with some parts of the posters comments. Downtown has an increased homeless problem in the 3 years that I have been here. There is influence from legislature on the Westside of the state that I think is influencing that. The ignorance of some of the locals who have not chosen to expand their awareness would be expected anywhere this type of mindset occurs. If you look for that bad you can find it. I think there is a challenge with a service type economy and higher rents because of the real estate boom being driven by retirees and Californians pushing up home values. That will continue until the money stops flowing from out of state.
