Review of Kingman, Arizona

Just say no!!!
Star Rating - 8/11/2007
I've lived here almost 4 years and I can't wait to get out!!!! If you were raised in the desert, then it might be pretty or decent for you, but as someone from the east coast....I say that the ramshackle properties RUIN the landscape. The mountains are beautiful yes....but there are only a few tolerable weeks a year when its not too hot or too cold to go outside and enjoy the weather.

There is very LITTLE to do here culturally. If you're a church goer, then you're one of the lucky ones. All you can do is hide in your house/apt, go to the movies, gambling in Laughlin (which is BORING) or go out to eat.

I am starving for theatre and ballet and a good orchestra and I can't drive to Vegas for it either....too morally bankrupt. The only culture I see here is at the local library which I have made extensive use of.

There is alot of crime related to Meth, which seems to be the drug of choice for these bored desert rats. And real estate is WAAAAAY overpriced for what you get here. And the apartment where I rent is a DUMP. Huge scorpions and centipedes and spiders invade my home on almost a daily basis...not to mention that there are alot of ant problems around town.

Go ahead and move here if you want, but my advice is to visit first!

I have lived here in Kingman Arizona for all 16 years of my life. I've done pretty much everything you can think of. I've run out of things to do and there's really nothing to do put here, it's a fascinating, yet boring little town. ????

First,Kingman is on a path of improvement of unparelled proportions. This includes the demolition of older trailer housing and the creation of new tract suburbs, the broadening of major streets into Boulevards, and the creation of tons of new businesses supplying goods and services. Second, the weather is ten times better than Phoenix or Las Vegas. I have enjoyed many gorgeous 70 degree days in Feb. and March. Hiking or moutain biking in the mountains is tremendous. Why on earth places like Moab Utah, for example, are so expensive and "hip" eludes me completely. I can show you mountain vistas and spring fed valleys that are far more beautiful just outside Kingman. Third, this is a small town, so sure there are not a lot of things culturally to do. That's what the drive to Vegas is for; it's myopic to say Vegas is morally banctrupt. There have been French Impressionist painting exhibits as well as a recent Ansel Adams photography exhibit, and the food there is the best in the world (better restaurants than San Francisco). Finally, if you haven't noticed, there is a meth epidemic in small town USA that is unparalled and has been ignored quite thoughtfully by our fine admistrations (both Republican and Democrat). It is eating away the fiber of our young people. I can assure you that this exists everywhere. Having just come home from visiting relatives in a small nice Texas town near Fort Worth I was shocked to see meth addicts everywhere. As to the Scorpions, move, your landlord should be performing pest control. You may see some out in the desert heat at night, but after 7 years here, I have never seen one in my house.

It is common for apartment renters to always leave comment trashing a town because their rent is too high. Most of what "M" says here and elsewhere can be disregarded as a "users" imagination. Look at other Kingman comments for better idea of place.

Any other comments about scorpions? I am from the east coast and not used to those critters. Am considering a move to AZ in 2008, but the idea of a scorpion infestation might change my mind.

Ballet and theatre?!! You're kidding, right? You didn't know not to move here for ballet and theatre? Did you accidentally think you were moving to the King and I-man, Arizona?
