Minneapolis is one of the US's great cities and remains so despite the recent unrest and relatively high cost of living.
It's features include the Chain of Lakes, the Mississippi River and the Greenway bicycle a pedestrian "freeway".
The downtown is vibrant with many large corporations calling it home and it hosts professional baseball, basketball and football teams. If soccer or hockey is your thing, both can be found right next door in St. Paul.
If shopping is your thing, most of that has moved to the suburbs including the massive Mall of America in nearby suburban Bloomington. All of these entertainment spots are connected by a beautiful light rail train system.
Drive 60 minutes north and you'll suddenly find yourself entering the north woods where excellent hunting, camping and fishing can be done.
Head south 90 minutes and you'll find Mayo Clinic's Destination Medical Center, arguably the best medical facility in the world.
The city of Minneapolis itself is in the midst of a growth spurt, adding 54,000 to it's population in the 2010s. The entire metro grows even more rapidly.
The recent unrest in the city exposed it's seedy under belly. A police department out of control that multiple city administrations couldn't reform due to entrenched interests like the local police union.
The public schools struggle, under funded and neglected for decades, it has consistently failed people of color.
The metro area though is blessed to have the headquarters locations of many fortune 500 companies including Target, 3m, US Bank and General Mills. The large big corporation footprint drives business through the large MSP airport, a hub for Delta and home base of Sun Country Airlines.
Minneapolis is far from perfect but it is a city striving to "get it right", and often succeeds.
