Review of Plaquemine, Louisiana

Plaquemine is a Picturesque Perfect Place
Star Rating - 1/17/2010
Plaquemine is a delightful place to live in every way. We have a very interesting eclectic mix of high income people from all over the world due to the strong presence of DOW Chemical and CoPolymer Corp, and lovely native French Creole and Cajun people. There is a strong Jewish presence with Louisiana's current very good looking Attorney General being from here.
Celebrities in numbers are often seen at the International Acadian Festival held annually and the local Mardi Gras continues to grow in both regional and tourist popularity.
THE TOWN IS GORGEOUS!!! It looks like a small European village mixed with small Caribbean village mixed with the pretty parts of New Orleans. Most of the European settlers who came here were already gentry classed when they arrived in the 1700's and early 1800's from Europe and it shows in the architecture and attitudes of the people.
It is picturesque with a lavish Cathedral and elegant large park on the waterfront. Movie scenes are often filmed here as recently as last year and dating back to scenes from Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte in the 1960's and films before. Gone With The Wind was almost filmed in the area and BMW shot their American commercials and print ads here in the early 1990's.
There are lovely places to live everywhere, a collection of fabulous historic homes near the River where lives even an ex Lt. Governor and a number of families who have moved here from New Orleans. Bayou Road is popular with young high professionals and they tear down houses on the Bayou Road to get the lots they sit on to build new trophy houses. Gracious old LaBauve Avenue is another fine address.
New Orleans airport is one hour to the minute as is the fabulous shopping of the area where it is. Dinner in New Orleans is doable and you can be back home before ten pm.
We live in the old downtown in a wonderful loft we created and crime is non-existent. You can walk to restaurants and shops and have your dry cleaning delivered, it is a step back to happier more lovely times.
We are native Upstate New Yorkers and came here with my husbands career from California twelve years ago and he turns down promotions so we may stay here forever.
If you are hunting a perfect picturesque place with character THIS IS IT!!
