Review of Kalkaska, Michigan

SMH Very Corrupt and extremely uninhabitable!
Star Rating - 1/25/2020
I've lived in Kalkaska full time since 1973. Back then it was a nice community, growing because of a great oil and gas boom, that is now gone. Gone too are the many factories, businesses, pubs/restaurants etc.that used to be here.
At the time the oil and gas boom began, the old timers told me there was one Sheriff and no deputies.
The schools became highly inadequate as so many were moving in, we had split shifts, High school in the am Elementary and Middle Schools in the pm. The taxes went up and the schools got new buildings, and back to normal school days after that.
As I grew up things seamed quite pleasent here. The 70's, 80's and very early 90's were great. People loved the area, it was a great place to work, live, vacation and play. Then as the 90's progressed, things began to change, a darkness fell over the land!
A bunch of very corrupt people got in power, they were supposed to be public servants, but copped some sort of tyrannical attitude, and thought they were our masters or our god's or something. The new Sheriff in town hired a police army, with over 40 sheriff deputies, village police and somehow invited in a State Police force as well. The entire county only had around 12,000 people, and with absolutely nothing to do, these tyrants began to pull people over just for leaving one of the 5 in town pubs / restaurants that were all very busy and, brought in huge volumes of locals and visitors. Every weekend there were 3 live bands playing 2 nights, and even during the weekdays there was karaoke or dj's, This town literally rocked!
Then came the police state. I remember 1 deputy recieving an award from the STATE OF MICHIGAN for arresting around 250 supposed drunk drivers in 1 year!!! People, this is no cause for an award, it is nothing less than absolute tyranny, it's called entrapment which is a felony, then all the other road pirates jumped in and started doing the same thing, because the corrupt Judge Buday and Sheriff Cannon allowed and rewarded this behaviour.
There was not a big problem with drunk driving issues at all, certainly not for this type of solution! Don't get me wrong, I'm not sticking up for drunk driving, but back in the day the legal limit was 1.0 it's now .08 that's 2 beers!!! Which I feel is rediculas, and proves it's not about safety, but taking in revenue, no matter the cost for the many victims! That tyranny still goes on today in this community, only it's muc
