Review of Northampton, Massachusetts

Northampton is a one of a kind place to live.
Star Rating - 7/27/2018
I was born in Northampton in the 1960"s and have lived other places but always came back to live here. My two children were born here too. What draws be back to Northampton and why I chose to buy a house here and raise my children here is the respect for diversity of all kinds, the beauty of this small city, lively downtown with mostly small local businesses and I know of no other small city of this size with over 125 high quality places to eat, especially ethnic food. Northampton offers a high quality public school system and smith College campus private day school as well. We are part of the 5 college system, complete with public transit to these colleges. Many people take the bus or bike to work, lots of bike paths here. this is an expensive place to live but there is so much to enjoy here. We have two big, old public libraries that offer preschool drop in programs. We have the Iron horse music hall and the Calvin that offer nationally known bands. We have the smith college museum, The Amherst college museums and old Deerfield living history museum. This is a great place to raise children , for single people and people with pets but lots of rentals don't allow pets, some just charge extra if they allow pets. If you have a dog expect to pay more rent to live here.We have a great new independent movie theatre in nearby Amherst and you can see dinosaur footprints in the free Amherst college Natural History museum also new. People who have moved here usually chose to stay here and many commute to work in the springfield area and i know people who commute to work in Ct. there is also many people who work from home. We have great parks like Look Park that has a water spray park and a kiddi train that is big enough for adults to ride and excellent play grounds, picnic places to rent and foot peddle boats on a pond. UMASS has international dancers and musicians perform for the public. There is so much to enjoy here. We could use more people to move here.We have the room and a community that wellcomes newcomers. the reason that I did not rate 5 star is because of the high cost of living, rent, food, home ownership and a long cold winter,
