Review of Atlanta, Georgia

Moving to Atlanta
Star Rating - 8/25/2015
I want to move to Atlanta from Philadelphia, PA. My husband and 5 year-old will be moving as well. I'm a Librarian and my husband is a truck driver. We're African-American and are looking for a single family home no more than 200k. Any recommendations on a nice neighborhood with a good public elementary school.

Not sure if you moved or not but I highly recommend you reconsider. At 200K you will find an OK house in a mediocre neighborhood and all mediocre neighborhoods in Atlanta or its metro have awful schools. Keep in mind all public schools in the South are automatically inferior to the ones up North. I do not know why that is but it is true.

Warner Robins Ga, or Perry which is just a little south of Warner Robins. Its a bit country compared to atl, bit it is a nice southern suburb with great family homes, great school system and nicely diverse! Also if you ever get a inkling for "the city" maybe a shopping weekend or concert, whatever Atlanta is 1 1/2 up 75 and then you can make it back to your lovely home later that evening! P.s. ALOT more house for ALOT less money there Good luck, atlanta is pretentious and sucks

Check the gwinnett county area. If you are used to philly traffic then the traffic in Atlanta will not seem bad. With that said, I used to live in Philly...went down to Atlanta over the recent labor day holiday and drove straight into the city. As you know, driving into Philly at any point, holiday or not, there will be tremendous traffic. There was virtually none inside the city. I was at downtown peachtree st checking out my new job location and a couple of cars rolled by but not bad at all! The trip in town was nothing like driving in town and even on the surrounding interstate/hwy system nothing like the schuykill. Keep in mind we were only there for a couple of days less than a month ago. My wife is from Boston and I used to live in Philly so our perspective on traffic might be a bit skewed. Good luck to you guys in your move
