Review of Williamsburg, Virginia

Life here
Star Rating - 6/26/2005
Williamsburg is a small, conservative town with a high upper-class population. It is a good place to raise children, yes, but once they get into high school, they get bored of the small town vibe with nothing to do and thus, some of them DO turn to drugs. A surprising number of kids have overdosed. Parents have to realize that here, without anywhere to go but a 24/7 WalMart, kids are going to get restless.
It is a pretty area and pleasant to visit. However, for those of us living here, the changes and accomodations made for tourists are quite staggering; shopping malls keep sprouting per year with even more housing developments following. Pretty soon, there won't be any room left for the townies or for the new people moving in. Lots of deer accidents, too.

Nothing for teens to do? I take it that Water Country and Busch Gardens are not there anymore then? They took out all the parks too and stopped allowing canoeing, bicycling and what not? That's terrible. I sure will miss all those things... /sarcasm.

I came here 10 years ago, and I can say that it is a town that no one should think of moving to. The police department is corrupt, as are the courts. Where else in America would a child rapist be found guilty in the morning and have his release arranged by the judge that afternoon, only to have him grab another child 2 hours later? It is a good place to raise your children, if you have money. Lots of drugs. Jobs that are available unless you work as a low paid (2.13 per hour) server or cleaning hotel rooms for minimum wage. The divide between the rich and the poor is glaring and few in the middle class. I agree with the first poster. As a white, I have seen the discrimination against any other color or cultural background.
