I was born and raised here in duluth and I would just have to say there is probably no other area I would want to live. Duluth is truly naturally beautiful. It is just the right size city not too big not too small. The locals are Minnesota nice if you are an outdoorsy person or a photographer duluth is an area to live in for you. It's city meets outdoors. The crime is not bad if you live in the right areas west duluth is moderate, Lincoln park is bad, observation is pretty good hillside and downtown aweful, woodland and east are nice skyline is nice. Just depends you can generally spot the nice areas from the bad. But living in duluth your not gonna find much land so living in the surrounding area would be your best option if your looking for land and more privacy. The winters are kinda harsh but you get use to it last winter it got to -30 my dad left his cellphone in the car it cracked and the snow in are yard was as tall as me generally the higher up the hill you are the more snow fall then below the hill. But remember you can always bundle up more for the cold then you can take off for the heat. For me being a local 50?-70? is what I'm comfortable with. It is humid here so humidity makes lower temps feel hotter then say they would in California. Also Duluth has some of the best fireworks in the Midwest...and the tourist attractions are off the charts and there are quiet a few reputable resturants in the area. The schools are nice the kids can be clique but overall I would rate duluth a 7.

born in duluth too, but left duluth @ age 17 for air force and a life of world travel. got my excitement indeed but always thought of going back to home duluth. we lived on east 4th street - the old uptown of the 40's & 50's. seems they tore away my life when visited in 1998 and replace both homes with freeway and parking lot. yet i remember a great childhood - ice skating on our frozen lawn _ poured water and let it freeze (10 minutes), hunting, fishing within minute even as a kid with a bike you owned the world. riding to Island lake, fish lake, etc. great place to grow up. indeed toughen us up a bit when assigned to arctic areas in the airforce. never a worry - been there and soon learned to find what, where and how to enjoy where i am at the moment. if for no other reason move to, live in duluth for your kids. (sorry, but life has taught me certain lessons and kids today are so "soft".) though we had little wealth, my mother got me into University Lab. school -duluth & was my great gift for three years; the beauty of the north shore, the top a the hill ( engor tower -(sp?), twin ponds for swimming - we went on bikes and swimming most days of summer. Winter --what!? - a bit of cold weather. bundle up, walk, ski, skate -get out of doors, then come in and feel the joy of warm stove to huddle next to. The next day, bundle up and go back outdoors again. What? if your car doesn't start - oh well. whad'ya expect? it's -30 below. Just wait the first robin will appear soon and oh such joy. hard makes easy something to appreciate. yes? watch for the first iron ore boat and soon you're cleaning fish and cutting grass and swatting a few bugs - so what. it's beautiful, you live in duluth and life's good. quit moaning, go outside and see, touch, taste nature at it's best - you're home - as good as any place in the world - enjoy. Then when you need to travel and find a close second for home, come visit the Olympic Peninsula in Washington. Port Townsend, WA. - it's a good second best. See ya.
