Review of Bellingham, Washington

Worst place I have ever lived
Star Rating - 8/20/2018
I cannot emphasize strongly enough why you should NOT move to Bellingham. There is NOTHING that living in this city adds to my life that is worth the cost and annoyance of living here. Real estate isn't as bad as Seattle but it is still out of control, and my rent just went up 20% (uh, whose salary goes up 20% per year?!?). Most of the restaurants are average at best. Crazy number of rednecks and just plain weird people. Entertainment scene is boring and you have to drive at least two hours to get to Seattle. Bipolar climate with nine months of constant gloom and three months of constant sun. Getting out as soon as I can.

For the most part, I agree. Real estate and rentals are cheap compared to West Coast hot spots, but I think they are a poor value considering what you actually get for your money. As for things to do, a place is what you make it, but yeah, there's basically nothing to do in Bellingham besides outdoor rec. And yeah, I do think Bellingham has a higher than average number of strange people. Better than many of the surrounding towns, though.

I just came from beautiful Evergreen, Colorado and had to move to Puyallup, Washington. I recently visited Bellingham it is far from a horrible town. In Puyallup, I can't find a single organic grocery store, book shop, or many locally owned stores anywhere. I just visited Bellingham and didn't want to head back to the pit that I am currently calling home. It had everything for a healthy lifestyle and it seemed very laid back. There were plenty of decent restaurants and it wasn't riddled by fast food chains. I could also hear the birds again rather than the howl of traffic outside. The weather really isn't that bad either. Oh and I felt safe. It's just rainy and cold which is tolerable. I found it to be a lovely visit and wish my job took me there instead. I don't know how the job outlook is and the cost of housing, but it has to be cheaper than Colorado and Seattle.
