Review of Cedar Park, Texas

Mediocre & busy body
Star Rating - 5/2/2013
Cedar Park is a mediocre city, at best. As far as weather, the extremely hot and long summers make the quality of life here next to horrible. Also, contrary to the belief the school system is good here (LISD), it actually isn't, but neither is Round Rock ISD, Austin ISD, Georgetown ISD, Pflugerville ISD or any other of the school districts. That's because teaching of kids here is all about passing the TAKS test and not about teaching them the basics of Math & Science. The press is all about getting kids to graduate in the top 10% of their class. Well, it is actually impossible to get all the kids to graduate in the top 10% of their class! But, LISD just doesn't get that. There is a lot of bullying that goes on in the schools here and if you move here, don't expect your kids to make long lasting friendships because it just doesn't happen. If they get involved in sports, that helps, otherwise making friends here is very plastic. I've lived in Cedar Park, TX since 1999 and neighbors are very reclusive here and that was the hardest transition I still am making and it's 2013! I literally have met only two of my neighbors since 1999! LOL! Also, there are a TON of people in the Cedar Park & Leander area who love to sue one another for the pettiest things. It's a pretty scary part of the lifestyle here. Also, Cedar Park resides in Williamson County and this county has an INSATIABLE appetite for taxing and spending. They are constantly looking to build more roads that aren't needed. The City office is packed with tax and spend fiscal liberals. A good example of this is when the voters voted down funding a new City Hall and city administration pulled our tax money out of the surplus and bought a new City Hall anyway (a group of bankrupt commercial property on Cypress Creek Road), thus bypassing the will of the people. It was only until recently that home schooled kids were allowed to be on the streets during public school hours. The fascist policy of the city had this policy in effect for years and really for no reason at all but control. Good restaurant service in Cedar Park & Leander is nothing shy of non-existent. But the people here really aren't cut out to know proper customer service and obviously don't raise their kids to know good customer service. Drive defensively in Cedar Park & Leander because the drivers truly are ignorant and dangerous. We have had people literally killed in vehicle accidents here because they were texting on their phones. Most of the rednecks here are also horrible drivers and very, very rude individuals with no futures. Most kids live in homes with two working parents because the salaries are very low in the Austin and surrounding area, so Cedar Park really has no traditional sense of community and no traditions. On a positive note, there are many people who are great and I've made friends with, but they are people who grew up in small Texas towns that actually get it, or from other States that actually get it. Don't expect much wit here. People just aren't into being very friendly and eager to get to know anyone. People just don't want to get along in this area and I sometimes really feel most hate each other, but that seems to be a Texas thing?

Researching the weather here in Cedar Park as I am doing some due diligence as thinking about moving here for work purposes. By the sounds of your long viewpoint, Cedar Park seems to be the worst place in the world to live in. Are you really unhappy with your life here, or is CP really this bad?

Do you still live there? we have been looking homes around and it seems so nice, we live in north Austin. Are you a Mom I guess is hard this days to get to know your neighbors any more. I worry about the same my children to have long lasting friends. Cedar Park looks quiet and relaxing but reading this I wonder.

I too, have lived here full time since 1999. I spent 6 weeks every summer from 6 years old here with my Grandfather. Moves my 3 boys here in 99 also. They were 4 & 5 years old as well as an 18 year old who finished high school before we got here. I found the schools excellent though my last one graduated in 2014. They attended school with the same people from elementary, thru Jr. High & high school. One of them went in the Navy for 4 years & just before he got home from deployment, his friends all his life moved into a 3 bedroom so he would have a real bed. I have made close friends here & love the slow pace. Dont do anything wrong and you don't have to worry about Williamson County. Sounds like this woman is miserable here (anywhere) in Texas. You havent seen heat yet!

And you would be surprised at what a smile & wave will do & next time you have 10 minutes free time, start with one neighbor, introduce yourself & before long I bet you have made lifelong friends too.
