Looking for Mayberry!
Star Rating - 7/8/2006
We are looking for a great place to live......A friendly place where people take pride in their homes and the community. We are also looking for a place with little traffic, a slower pace, but plenty of community activity. We currently live in Colorado where the air is dry. Best Places comfort level score is only 32.....Is there a lot of humidity? Anyone care to give their input?

Benton, KY - Murray, KY - Mayfield, KY ************* They form a triangle on the map and we like rural living so we live right in the center of the triangle on the Clark River. We love it here and again we were looking for "Mayberry". If you want city living, the 3 towns I mentioned have 3 different distinct personalities. I'd suggest that you visit especially Murray and Benton. My pick would be Murray, but I also like Benton. All 3 have a Walmart and a CVS pharmacy. We're from Wisconsin so the minimal amount of snow is offset with the summer humid temps.

Try Benton, Ky. We moved here from Tucson, Az to get away from high crime and a million population. We too were looking for Mayberry and found it here!! Nice people, well maintained homes, good economy. Benton is the county seat for Marshall County. There is a town square with a Rexall Drugstore with a lunch counter and they deliver our Rx. (And lots of other thriving locally owned businesses) Population is just over 5,000. We are 15 min from Kentucky Lake. Yes there is humidity, but low temps and not a lot of snow. Beleive me, the quality of life more that makes up for humidity. Murray with MSU is 15 minutes south and Paducah is 25 min to the north. The only drawback is that the nearest large airport is 2 hours away in Nashville. We don't go often and don't mind when we do, here is always something to do in Nashville. We love it here and the people have made us feel welcome. Lynn B
