100% Jennifer. This city is swimming in money because they charge at least $50 extra in every utility bill: electric, water, gas, sewer, trash. $18 on EACH bill for fire service, something usually taken out of property taxes—-and they don’t pay the firefighters with that!
The city constantly punishes the poor and the renters to the benefit of the huge corporations and property owners. It’s obscene. They are right now closing down the only homeless shelter because someone a mile away didn’t want it where it is. Where are these homeless people going to go DURING A PANDEMIC?
The activism is strong, it needs to be to combat the extremely corrupt local and state politicians here. But almost none of the politicians care about the average resident here.
Hot hot hot and very humid summers with no breeze. Sweltering and hottest and stickiest than almost anywhere else.
The $$$ you save on housing gets stolen by the city. No decent jobs but lots of minimum wage or less. Lots of racism and ignorance. The college crowd is mostly stupid, FSU is a party college, not a learning college, but the alum groups are connected (and willing to spend obscene $23 mil on ridiculous things-again, not smart).
The city, as the capital, had potential but Reese Goad and others like him just screwed everything up and everyone over, particularly students, poor and elderly. Rich people moving in, poor people sleeping on sidewalks.
