Great place to raise a family. Wide open spaces with plenty of outdoor activities to offer. A community currently of 446 people. My husband and I are graduates of this little town. The school district is nice as it is very small offering K-12 public school under one roof with a new addition of a public Montessori. Class sizes vary anywhere from 20-35 people. The people are all born and raised locals for the most part. Quite friendly but since there isn't a lot to offer in the town the locals enjoy sitting in the bars every night of the week gossiping about the local politics. There is one grocery store located on Main Street. The prices are extremely high but the service is excellent. There are two main restaurants in this town, The Birchwood Café and Paul's Pizza Den. The Birchwood Café has amazing home cooked meals but also a little spendy. The customer service is very friendly and it can accommodate larger groups of people. Paul's Pizza Den, although the establishment is nice to look at it is not recommended for eating. It has a bar as most places do in this town but the owners spend a lot of their time sitting at it drinking and engaging in loud, inappropriate conversations while people are trying to dine. The food is not the greatest. Its expensive and you certainly do not get what you're paying for. The pizzas normally are served with very little for toppings and are always burnt. The only thing I would even recommend eating there are there salads. The customer service, although quite friendly is not the greatest either because you experience longer then normal wait times and the food is hardly ever served piping hot. There are numerous lakes to enjoy boating, fishing, swimming etc. and the scenery is beautiful. There are a lot of resorts on Lake Chetek that are open during the summer to enjoy your stay while you are visiting. Closest area for serious shopping is in Rice Lake Wisconsin which is about a 25 mile commute. All in all, as long as you're not engaging too much within the town it's a great place to live and vacation!
