Review of Santa Cr,

Santa Cruz
Star Rating - 7/14/2015
I have owned a home in Soquel (right next to Santa Cruz) for 24 years and spent lots of time in SC. First, noise is JUST LIKE everywhere else. Second, if you have skills and are willing to work you will not be unemployed. Third, roads are acceptable but not great. Fourth, I have never seen a discarded needle but the party crowd and homeless crowd comes to the beach and just like SF it is not always pristine. Fifth, there is no feral cat problem. Sixth, drought is not an issue if you use a yellow/mellow, brown flush it down strategy. Seventh, affordable housing issue is real if you are not making $$. Seventh, most people who rent pay taxes on that income, the assertion is ridiculous. Eighth, crime is in fact high due to out of town partiers and local homeless/addicted population. Positives -- incredible beauty, climate, clean air, Silicon Valley 35 min. away, with a quickly vanishing older hippie population. Downtown is still funky and weird, stay away from it if you don't like it. Basic message is just stick to those areas you really dig and you will love the area. Be sure to bring skills and a desire to work.

I'm surprised that you've never seen a needle. I found one on a Saturday morning around ten oclock right in front of Starbucks downtown. Go to Take Back Santa Cruz on FB. Needles are everywhere. I would never let my child play on the beach here.

Soquel Rocks ! I love it and it is Not Santa Cruz tho it Is a bordering town. hmmm...I think maybe that Santa Cruz County is like a microcosm of United States. With all of the different attitudes and (vibes) Yes I am One of the Vanishing Hippies. Or rather Beach Babes ! more like. anyway many microclimates, and you can go from the wharf in SC to 7M up hiway 9 to Felton and the temperature goes from 55* or 65* TO 105* during summer. Soquel is always warm as it is just 2M inland. I see traffic as a serious problem, and the bad roads. I like both Mike's description And Tarringtons. Soquel and The Westside are different areas. Sounds like Tarrington is on the Westside. It IS Very Beautiful, and also what Tarrington says Is True. These two folks are seeing things from a different perspective. Mike wants to see the best. But I will say You will have to do nothing But work if you want to own a home there. It is extremely $$$ and all of the negatives ARE there ! If you can stay in your beautiful homes (and most of those folks Do !) then yeah go for it. But if you have to go to town and interact I'd say thing Twice and then again. Tarrington got it right. But still Westside and Soquel are my favorite places on Planet Earth ! I wish something could be done about the gangs. And the prices.
