Review of Lake Havasu City, Arizona

Don't come here thinking it's New York City or L.A
Star Rating - 11/9/2019
My wife and I lived here from 1991 to 1997, when we moved for employment reasons to Phoenix. I have since retired, and we moved back this past July. We love it here!

Here are the facts about Lake Havasu. It is a small, (53,000 pop.) desert town. It is conservative and Republican. Yeah, we're those people who cling to our religion and our guns. If you don't like that, too bad. Go elsewhere.

It is very HOT here in the Summer. If you don't like hot weather, don't come here. If you're a flaming liberal Democrat, don't come here. If you don't like the desert, or the barren landscape it provides, don't come here. We're not built around the entertainment industry. So if you want "worldly culture", and to be entertained every 15 minutes, don't come here.

If you want a nice peaceful place, that has one of the best lakes in the country, good fishing, along with a relaxed lifestyle to go along with it, then come here and you will be happy. (We also have a fantastic, very friendly gun club in town).

But for God's sake, at least be honest with yourself. No town of 50,000 people is going to be a mecca for higher education, high paying jobs, along with culture and entertainment. If you want that, do yourselves and us a big favor, and move to the big city. You, and we, will all be happier.

Great review William, funny and honest. If I can convince my wife the heat won't kill her, I'd love to move there. And we promise if we do, to keep it red and bring the BS we fled!

Lynn, You are never going to feel "welcome" living in a place where you don't want to be. Or around people you don't fit in with. That is simple human nature. I'm a conservative Republican who loves desert living. The fact is Lake Havasu City is full of such people. I much prefer to live around like minded people who enjoy the same things as I do. I would despise living in a place like Portland or Seattle, that's packed full of flaming far left, socialist liberals. That's why I left Chicago 30 years ago, and never looked back. I wouldn't feel any more "welcome" in Seattle or Portland, than those rain soaked liberals would here. People like to assimilate with their own kind. Always have, and always will. If me pointing that out upsets you, I can't help that.

No one here is, "stuck in the past". In fact we're more in tune with the present than most who are living in the urban areas. It's why we came to Lake Havasu in the first place. Most everyone here is from somewhere else. I came from Chicago back in 1991. And I'm glad I did. Look at where, "progressive thinking" has taken that city in the last 30 years. It's turned into a hell hole that people are fleeing in droves. It's the same with California, where jobs are disappearing left and right, the cost of living has gone through the roof, and the homeless have invaded the streets with their crime and filth. Still more wonderful, "progressive politics" at work, pushing people out. So they come here to get back to enjoying life... Instead of having to run from it. So spare me and the rest of us, all of your, "repressive, stuck in the past" nonsense. No one here is rioting, smashing, looting, or burning anything. We're living in peace, and enjoying what this place has to offer..... An escape from all the crap we left behind, and beautiful weather with abundant sunshine. If that's, "living in the past", and being "closed minded and repressive", I'll take it 7 days a week, and twice on Sunday.

Californians, you know what that means. Time to turn Mohave county blue!

Wow, you sure have a knack of making people feel welcome - as long as they're in lockstep with your way of thinking, your perspective on life, your views on religion and of course, vote the same way you do. What a shame that you can't even think of sharing "your" community with people who may not see the world through your myopic lens. Thanks for the warning.

Closed minded, stuck in the past and repressive. Yep, if you like that move to Lake Havasu City.
