Agree with much of what you've said here Mike. San Diego was an AMAZING place to grow up... in the 70's and 80's. You said you're leaving. I've already left.

Anyone paying these crazy prices for these shacks in California has got to be a charter member of the "there's always someone stupider than I" club. Sooner or later the Russian roulette wheel estate hammers going to fall on the last guy. When the music stops the last guy without a chair loses. Everyone will look at themselves and say can you believe how stupid we were to pay $872,000 for a 90-year-old two bedroom one bath clip joint without a garage or central air-conditioning because it's only 1.3 miles away from the beach. Normal people can't be participating in the market out there, it's got to be Chinese real estate investment trusts or air B&B speculators. Otherwise it doesn't make any sense. Most of the housing looks like Third World property to me. The kind of houses when I was growing up I used feel sorry for people that had to live in them. Small, old, no yard, no land and wished right between your neighbors to either side. I think people selling now and getting out are getting out while the getting is good. I have to disagree with one point that Mike made. I really don't think that the only thing that California and San Diego has going for it is its natural beauty. I grew up in New England with hundreds of miles of country roads and beautiful green landscapes and water feature is legs/rivers waterfalls wherever you would look to the left into the right everywhere green and beautiful. I don't see any of that in California with the exception of a few very isolated areas of beauty which have been completely cannibalized by developers and guys like Mitt Romney that can afford a $10 million house overlooking the ocean in La Jolla. Get on a freeway or any roadway between San Diego and Los Angeles and tell me with his any natural beauty to be seen anywhere. Parched freeways, crumbling infrastructure, no green spaces. I see no or very little natural beauty anywhere in Southern California. It's a desert littered with strip malls and planned communities stock up on top of some shaved off hill/mountain. Waldorf communities cinder block walls. No natural terrain i.e. forests to create natural boundaries between homes. Parts of northern California near the coast/Yosemite a few other places but most of the state looks like the surface of the moon with freeways.

The mountains and coastal bluffs (Sunset Cliffs, La Jolla, Del Mar) are beautiful but that is a small slice of an area that is overwhelmingly brown, dusty and dirty looking....with unsophisticated residents that look like and dress like slobs to match.

Sad but true. I am a SD native for 72 years. Can’t believe I am leaving the state next. Was shocked that selling my home here will buy me a place near family in Florida. Will have enough to buy a car and travel......
