Wouldn't Want to Live Anywhere Else

I have lived in Tyler over 20 years, and in the immediate area for most of my life. I would say that overall, Tyler is a good place to live. As many have said in other reviews, there are very few cultural activities, and not much to do entertainment-wise. However, it is only a two hour drive to Dallas where you can get all of that that your heart desires. Tyler's roads are not capable of handling the increases in population, i.e. driving in Tyler sucks! However, I would rather battle the traffic here than in a larger city. The schools are probably pretty much average--not the best, not the worst. My daughter graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and went on to get a PhD from The Ohio State University, so obviously she was able to learn something... There is a very strong Christian influence in Tyler. That is good and bad, depending on your own personal preferences. When I was fresh out of college, I had hopes of moving to a big city. I am ever grateful now that my life's journey has kept me here. Tyler has everything a person needs. The question is whether you are willing to live with just your NEEDS met, but not all of your WANTS. I expect that every town/city has its good and bad points. All of the negative reviews that I have read on this site were either exaggerated or based on Tyler's not having everything that the reviewer WANTED. Please take a moment to consider the difference between NEED and WANT before ranting about a perfectly decent town.
