Review of Sunnyside, Washington

Is ok in terms of cost of living.... however
Star Rating - 11/4/2009
Sunnyside is approx 8 minutes away from Grandview. Sunnyside has a small shopping center called the mid-valley mall (whose anchor store is JCPenney, only one floor). The sales tax rate is pretty cheap (7.9%), however which such a low tax rate, programs such as animal shelters, law enforcement, and quality of schools have been cut. Currently there is not an animal shelter in the area, and this causes the problems of many poor, stray animals. The hispanic population in the area is also very high, so being bi-lingual is a plus. There is a heavy problem with drugs/gang crimes in this area, I would recommend living in Prosser, WA instead (about 10 mins away). Sunnyside is 40 minutes from Tri-Cities WA and about 30-35 minutes away from Yakima, WA. The Yakima lower valley area is known for their wineries, and have many agricultural jobs available. A cool perk about this town, it is home to the Dairygold farms, where you can stop in and see a free tour of the plant and buy fresh cheese, food, and other goodies. Ok to visit, but wouldnt want to live there.
