Funny how the comments seem to be from people who are not Bend natives so they have no idea what has been like to watch my beautiful hometown be overrun by Californians. Property taxes had tripled in the past eight years! No one can afford to live here anymore except the Californians who drove up our housing prices to the point where young people and retirees cannot find or afford housing. I am a fourth generation native and I struggle to continue to afford my home even though it is paid off. Food, gas, utilities prices have skyrocketed. The Californians still think it is cheap to live here compared to where they came from, so up and up they keep going. People here are no longer cordial and never smile when you pass them, we have to spend tax money to build more schools because of all the kids they are bringing here, the roads are full of texting drivers who run red lights, our parks are so full of people we can't even find parking let along enjoy a hike or fishing trip. They leave cigarette butts, trash and dog poop everywhere, and they refuse to leash their dogs in clearly marked leash-only areas. We are being taken over by self indulgent, rude and entitled jerks....and you wonder why the native locals are getting uptight and cranky. Maybe if you all stayed where you are, we would still love living here instead of having to consider finding another place to live after spending our entire lives here. And for your information, Bend, and most of Oregon, is and has always been conservative until recent California liberals took over!
