Review of Bend, Oregon

Bend is overpriced and overrated
Star Rating - 5/18/2021
I have lived in Bend, OR for almost 14 years and the cost of living has sky rocketed. Affordable housing is hard to come by and apartments are expensive, as are houses. Unless, you can work remotely and are moving from California, N.Y. or another high priced city and make 6-7 figures a year, I would not suggest moving here. Houselessness, drugs and the high cost of living as taken its toll here. Not too mention that Bend is a tourist town that was hard hit by COVID-19 and we have had our share of Proud Boys and alt-right groups coming through here to cause trouble and hold rallies which our law enforcement officers chose to ignore, for the most part. Houses are selling for $600,000 and up to those who telecommute for work or want a vacation home or rentals. I live in a 507 sq ft 1 bedroom apart that costs me $990.00 a month and will soon go up again this year to over a thousand a month. That is cheap compared to the many other studio and 1 bedrooms costing $1200- $2800 a month. So, avoid moving to Bend unless you have the means to afford it here and even if you can afford, move elsewhere, please, because people with money are the reason average citizens like myself are being pushed out or ending up homeless or living with 5 roommates.

I make under six figures and found a house to rent for under $2,000 a month on two acres, so it's possible, but you have to be dedicated and can't hesitate to apply the moment something comes available. (In other words, whining like a victim isn't going to help you.) And no, I didn't move from California. I grew up in Southern Oregon, and Oregon is my home state. Homelessness and drugs are not even an issue here compared to Portland. I don't know why you're mentioning Proud Boys and alt-right groups. Because they aren't from *your* tribe? What real problems have they caused? Did they break windows? Burn and loot? No? They just held rallies? So no issue then, unless you want to live in an ideologically pure area. Maybe Portland is more your speed. But then you'll see what a serious homeless issue looks like. You're paying about a thousand dollars a month to live in a prime area and you're complaining about rent? Again, look at Portland. You can pay the same amount to live in a cesspool like Klamath Falls...assuming you can even find a rental there as housing is tight throughout the West. I agree housing is expensive and that there's a bubble. Yes, it's crowded here and traffic is bad and people should really consider not moving here. But your one-star review is just whining and self-proclaimed victimhood.
