Review of Fort Wayne, Indiana

born and raised
Star Rating - 5/9/2010
I left Fort wayne when I was 18 and have lived in arizona for 33 yrs.I wish now I would have raised my kids in Fort Wayne. In Phoenix you have non-stop traffic, crime,Air pollution is terrible.Yes Fort wayne might be a little boring compared to other places but the quality of life beats Phoenix hands down. When I visit Fort wayne the stress I have from living in phoenix just goes away. The education I received in Fort Wayne was excellent.A lot of you complain about the weather just be careful what you wish for .I know I regret it.

I was born in FW and moved to PHX when I was 9. None of the things you described seem to apply to the city I remember. I think your problem is that you live on the west side of the valley. I grew up in Scottsdale and PV Valley and none of the items listed above were relevant except air quality. How can you beat a top University, world class shopping and a city voted the most liveable by American cities, Scottsdale unified schools are some of the best in the state and rank in the top 70th% on US standards. That all beig said, I recently moved back to FW for family. The city has its charms but it's clear that the city councils are vey far detached from reality. The roads are awful, city planning and zoning is almost nonexistent and the most common problem seems to be that everything is only "just good enough". It seems that the population here is stuck in a time warp where they try live delusional to what's going on else where. FW should be a major hub, it is in the middle of 6 major cities, but it seems that no one here wants to take advantage of it. The city center needs serious urban redevelopment. The south side of the city is frightening and has far more violence and crime than I ever experienced living in a one of Americans top 5 largest cities. The city is also one of the most divided and racist I have lived in. Their isn't a black person north of coliseum blvd, they are all clustered to the south. The city is very poor with a household income far below national averages but it has the wealthiest zip code in the state just to the southwest. Honestly, this might be a good place to raise a child, but the city needs a fresh start with a new council and a clear objective to modernize and update the city.
