Lock Haven A Great Place to Retire
Star Rating - 7/15/2009
Lock Haven is a lovely community situated along the Susquehanna River and backed by the Bald Eagle Creek. The Susquehanna in particular provides for a lot of recreational opportunities.
The city has many civic organizations which in conjunction with the town provides many free concerts, riverfests, regattas, festivals, carnivals, and fireworks throughout the summer.
It helps support a community playhouse, which provides summer stock theatre on a main stage, as well as, a cabaret.
Because of its location, Lock Haven is subject to periodic flooding, which has been controlled within the city limits by a dike levee system.
Politically, it is a good old boy and who do you know network. Although many would deny this, a careful look at the court records indicate that money talks.
Most people not connected with drugs and gangs are fairly safe. Although in the past five years, it has been increasingly dangerous to walk around town after nine pm.
Most law abiding citizens should find it a safe and friendly place. It has a branch of Penn State University with many cultural offerings. It has both a college library and a community library which gives access to all of the state libraries. There are many civic organizations to join and make friends such as Kiwanis, Rotary, AAUW, Senior Circle, Silver Sneakers. Rails to trails is close by. People can be as active or laid back as they like.
Because housing prices are still very low it is a great place to retire if one likes all four seasons. The area scenery is breathtaking. Try it. You'll like it. Just stay out of trouble. Trouble will not be looking for you here in Central Pennsylvania.
