Review of Choctaw, Oklahoma

Origin of City Name
Star Rating - 3/2/2011
I would like to know the origin of the city of Choctaw's name. Even though it is the oldest chartered town in Oklahoma, there is not much information about the are of land before it was settled by whites.

This is likely your best source of information pertaining to your inquiry. https://www.okhistory.org/publications/enc/entry.php?entry=CH048 I live on land in Choctaw that was originally purchased, from what appear to have been attorneys, by an unmarried young man just a year or two after the land run. This is information from my abstract. Interesting stuff.
