Review of Highland Park, Illinois

Highland Park, IL; Culture & Recreation
Star Rating - 10/25/2007
Highland Park (and the village of Highwood, which it surrounds) is a great place to live, offering a unique combination of benefits. First, it is on the shore of Lake Michigan and therefore offers opportunities for boating (power, sail, and paddle) and swimming. The lake cools the town in summer and warms it in winter. It has a vibrant downtown with many good restaurants and plenty of shopping. The schools are very good but the local taxes are correspondingly quite high. Unlike almost every other North Shore community, HP/Hw is ethnically, economically and religiously diverse; even the residential architecture is delightfully varied in age, style, and size.
