Review of McClo,

What's in store for Mc Cloud's Future?
Star Rating - 5/3/2009
Originally a company owned mill town, McCloud is a great get away place. Only 15 minutes from Mt. Shasta on hwy. 89, the town is comprised mainly of old mill houses. Good fishing on the McCloud river and reservoir are a few of the attributes. Shasta Ski Park is also close by. Since the mill closed, the town has had limited employment opportunities. About one third of the town are retirees, another third are absentee owners that recreate in the winter and summer. The remaining third if not employed in related government services find it difficult to make a living, if at all. The town is serviced by a community service district that provides water,
sewer, refuse disposal, fire protection and snow removal. Homeowners pay around $90 per month for the service. The district has been struggling financially for years. The community has been approached by Nestlie to build a water bottling plant on the old mill site. Proponents claim this would help the financially strapped community. Opponents say it would devastive the area. This writer agrees with the latter and feels the future of McCloud will remain with retirement and recrecational interests.
