Best Areas To Live

I currently live in Orlando and have lived in central Florida for many years. I am retired and take care of my elderly mother. I am female.
I am looking to move to the Ocala area very soon and am desperate to know which areas to avoid.
We live a quiet lifestyle and currently live in a very mature, quiet neighborhood here in Orlando. Although I like my neighborhood, my rent is outrageously high as is my power bill.
I've been looking at rental homes in the Ocala area and have seen some very nice homes between 600-800 dollars. This is exactly what I am looking for.
However, I don't know if these homes are in good neighborhoods.
I want to keep me and my mom as safe as possible and I know very little about Ocala other than the fact that there are a lot of very nice places to camp. Many years ago I used to go camping there and really enjoyed it.
Can anyone give me any advise about where to look for a rental?
I would like an area that is relatively quiet and not too awfully far from shopping and medical facilities.
Any advise is most appreciated.
