Review of Billings, Montana

Beautiful Billings
Star Rating - 11/7/2005
Billings is unique geographically, economically, and culturally. The weather is very mild! There is sunshine 340 days a year and over 200 of those are completely cloudless. There are 4 seasons but winter is mild. Snow comes in, soaks in the ground and leaves very little behind for a short time. 4 weeks later it will do the same thing. Its not uncommon to get a few 60 degree days in January and February even if the temps were below zero 2 weeks earlier. The Rocky Mountains define our southern & western skyline -- that's where the winter snow falls and stays. Within an hour anytime of year there is skiing, hiking, camping, touring, and fishing. So easy to get to.

The people are genuine and friendly and about half are from somewhere else. Politically we tend to be conservative but because of our fiercely independent natures and value of an individuals character, Billingsites are very accepting of every religion, nationality, and race. People of Billings are known for their generosity and patronize fund raisers of all kinds. The city is clean and never congested, even though there are an additional 40,000 residents in areas surrounding the city limits. Billings accomodates all ages and lifestyles: families, singles, young and old.

Our economy is healthy and experiencing steady growth of 1-3% annually: Healthcare, energy, education, retail, entertainment, & transportation are major industries here.

Sure, the property is here, but I wouldn't recommend this area. First off, I came from southern california and thought I was moving somewhere more quiet. IT'S FREEZING UP HERE! It got down to 10 degrees just last week! There's nothing to do up here either. Everything is far away and there is pretty much no night life up here. Also, the people here aren't very freindly to outsiders. Another thing, a lot of people up here are religious freaks. there is a church on every corner and if you don't go then they look at you funny. On top of all that, I found out that Montana has the most right wing extremists in the US. My advice, it's better to stay where you are! I'm moving back soon.

While Lynda's view of Billings isn't entirely accurate, I was born and raised there. I LOVE MONTANA! 10degrees is not cold... -40 is cold and that happens in the winter in Montana. Mark, people looked at you funny because you're from California. We've had a lot of people come in from CA and try to change MT into a mini-Cali. They don't like it. Like the bumper sticker says I guess, Montana Sucks, Now go back to California. For some reason Cali and MT don't mix. However. The people are FAR more friendly than in the other states we've lived in the last couple years. If you can come in and not try to bring California with you, you're more than welcome. I'm so shocked to see people hate it so much... We miss home so much we're counting the months to get back.

I currently live with my girlfriend in southern california. we hope to move to a more rural area within 5 - 6 years after we obtain our degrees. We hope to purchase 15 - 20 acres just outside of the city we would like horse property does this sound like the realestate out there? and is the weather freezing?
