Review of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin

Leaving as soon as I can
Star Rating - 9/26/2006
I have lived in Chippewa Falls all my life- almost 26 years. At first glance, a visitor would think that it is a quiet quaint town. However, the novelty wears off quickly if you stay for more than a day. There is very little to do around town and if you want to go shopping you are limited to Kmart or Wal-Mart, unless you feel like driving to the mall in Eau Claire- about 20 minutes or so away. I would say that the nightlife in Chippewa mainly consists of drunken hicks. Alcoholism is an epidemic here. Seriously, my friends and I avoid driving after 2am because of bar close. The jobs here are non-existent and you pretty much must work in Eau Claire. Most of the jobs pay horribly even if you are educated. I have a B.S. in biology and I make $12/hr! Visit if you dare, but don't ever move here!!!!

Was tempted to write a full review, but my experience was similar to yours and I was able to condense it substantially. I use to think Chippewa was a cute little town and would visit Irvine Park on occasion. Once I moved there my perspective quickly changed. Limited job opportunities and wages are not competitive (I have a four year degree and several certifications in my field.) Large percentage of smokers and habitual drinkers. You literally breath in cigarette smoke EVERYWHERE. For a city that hosted an annual pure waters days event the city tap water is some of the worst I have tasted - smells musty and tastes heavily chlorinate. I would debate whether it's drunken hicks or just plain trash that make up the majority of the population.
