Review of Lakehurst, New Jersey

Great for Raising Kids!
Star Rating - 3/10/2007
I've lived in Lakehurst for over 18 years and I love it. Sadly enough, due to property taxes in NJ, we are looking to move. For those who can afford to live in this state, Lakehurst is the place to be for raising a family. Our kids can walk to school (Lakehurst Elementary School...kindergarden through 8th grade; an outstanding, close-knit school) on tree-lined sidewalks! In fact, everything you absolutely need is in walking distance with the exception of the food store...ShopRite is a very short 3 minute drive. We have a pharmacy, two convenience stores, two gas stations, a post office, a hardware store, an automotive store, several doctors, a lake that you can picnic at and swim in or walk your dog around...watch the fireworks on the 4th of July, a police station and fire house, 5 churches, about ten different places to eat including McDonald's, Burger King, three pizza places, two diners, a rib place, an upscale Italian restaurant, an ice cream store, a bakery, an income tax business, a dry cleaner, a laundry mat, a music store where you can learn to play an instrument, a dance studio and so much more. Local businesses always support having lunch with Santa or the Easter Bunny and the tree lighting ceremony at Christmas time. The community is always doing something. You'll see kids walking all over town or riding their bikes; a group is always playing basketball at the school playground or down at the lake laughing and joking. A short, two-minute drive takes you to the neighboring town of Manchester for the library, high school, three or four banks, the soccer field, more businesses and eateries. Not enough? Drive 10-15 minutes to Toms River, Brick or Lakewood for everything else including concerts at the Ritacco Center and plays at the Strand Theater. Ocean County College and Georgian Court University are 15 minutes away. Seaside Heights is our seashore getaway and is a 15-20 minute drive where you can swim in the ocean or walk the boardwalk with a sausage and pepper sub or lick an ice cream cone. The boardwalk is loaded with rides and amusements. Still not satisfied? Go 20 minutes in the other direction and hit Six Flags Great Adventure. Most families buy the season pass because it's so close and so easy to get to...we pop in after dinner with the kids for a couple of hours of fun. Atlantic City and it's casinos are 45 minutes south. I feel like an advertisement for Lakehurst while writing this but...I loved raising my family here, it was the perfect p
