Review of Eastpointe, Michigan

It really is nice...
Star Rating - 8/25/2006
I grew up and still live in Eastpointe. It's a really nice place to live and raise a family. The school district is one of the best in Macomb County, houses are affordable, the city is safe, and the population is becoming even more diverse. Eastpointe has suffered in the past due to its location on the northern border of Detroit, and therefore was thought of as a dangerous community, full of crime, but this is nonsense. The crime rate in Eastpointe is dramatically lower than the Detroit neighborhoods that border it, and is identical to its sorrounding suburbs. One of the best aspects of Eastpointe is its proximity to everything. I-94 runs along the eastern border, 1-696 a mile north, and nothing in the metro area is more than a half-hour drive.

The inner ring suburbs, Eastpointe being one of them, has been suffering due mostly to an image problem. Most people assume that anything that close to Detroit can't be a liveable city. I've even heard people claim that nothing south of M-59 (roughly twenty miles outside Detroit) is "liveable." But this is nonsense. Eastpointe is a nice little town, full of charm, with plenty to do. In fact, I for one am glad that those racist losers are out of my town. We can be happier now in our diversity.
