Can’t wait to leave
Star Rating - 9/3/2020
Michigan is so overrated; Michiganders are in love with this state, and I don’t get it. You can sit and have a two hour conversation about how crappy things are here and they’ll agree, but there’s nothing you could say to make them dislike this state; what are they holding onto?

-It’s so boring. There’s nothing to do unless you have land or water access, or you like winter sports. Not even entertainers like to come here.
- The winters are BRUTAL and they never end. For like 8 months out of the year, it’s just miserable, gray, depressing, cold and wet. It’s hell on your home and car.
- The infrastructure has to be among the worst in the country. There’s no easy way to get anywhere, you’re sometimes going 20-30 extra miles out of the way to get from A to B. The roads look like they’re in a 3rd world. I don’t even know how many my tires have been claimed by potholes. There’s always construction repairing things that don’t need repairing, while neglecting real issues.
- The state and local governments are infamously corrupt and incompetent. Bunch of snooty democrats, wasting all of the tax dollars, making reckless decisions that ruin cities like Detroit and Flint. Remember Kwame Kilpatrick? Or look at Whitmer right now, putting COVID restrictions on everything so all businesses are failing and no one is employed, over a virus that a 113 year old woman just survived. So fiscally irresponsible.
- Michigan is the meth capital of the world.
- Michigan has two of the country’s top murder capitals.
- Theres not a whole lot of business opportunities.
- Housing is ridiculous. You’ll pay upwards of $300,000 for a house that’s 70 years old, with foundation issues, mold, trees ripping through pipes, etc. For what?? In this crappy state? No thanks. You can pay the same amount in, say, Texas and get a brand new and bigger house.
- People here are just generally *******s.
- Taxes are high and it all gets wasted.
- Insurance is INSANE, and there’s all kinds of high tertiary fees so you’re always just hemorrhaging money.

Bummer Phil... I just made it through my first winter in over 30 years here and it was not so bad... If you like snowmobiling you could have went up north and had a blast, on the trails, or ice fished... It was up to you... You can either play in the snow or sob over what you cannot have. It is probable true, that you may have not eaten in some of the best restaurants because you just don't care too. Mediocre, is a little rough. I will say that they could use more THAI restaurants and more Mexican restaurants... I have had authentic ethnic food while living in Los Angeles, and by far it is the best food I have found other than San Francisco and New York. But, there is an opportunity to change all of that. COOK at home, and order all the wine, booze or non alcoholic beverages you want to pair them with. It is not as bad, as you think... The potholes...well... lol maybe they need some help there for sure... Sorry, that you felt that way Phil... Hoping you have someone who brightens your life and will make up for it with their smile...

Winters are 5 months long in Michigan. It sounds like this person had no skills to make enough money to afford a home with land or near the water. Your only 6.9 miles away from water anywhere you go in Michigan. Fishing, hunting, boating, skiing(both water and down hill), farm markets and out door concerts. Interlochen is home to the second best school for the arts in the nation. Cherries, apples, wineries, small farms coming back. This clown just has to get out of the inner city and drive around the WHOLE state. I did not even mention the UP. I do agree the last two democrat governors have been a disaster to the state. Both had billions in surplus and depleted it in the first year. Plenty of jobs out there outside of restaurant related jobs. Grand rapids/Holland area is the new boom area for manufacturing.

I agree 100% having spent the winter here I have never met such an ignorant group of people. Have you heard locals tell you how much they love this state but have never lived in another state? It's not cheap either like you said. The car insurance here is insane. Thank God I didn't get conned renting an apartment downtown Detroit. And detroit? It's kind of lame and boring compared to other big cities. There's no public reliable cheap way to get from the suburbs to downtown Detroit. The food scene is stupidly overpriced and mediocre at best. It seems the people who had the opportunity to leave did so ASAP. The people who didn't leave are smug unhappy people who got stuck in a rut, never broke out of the rut, and never lived out their dreams.
