Review of Sequim, Washington

Sequim is a failed town.
Star Rating - 2/6/2021
Forget all the prior reviews, as Sequim has changed dramatically within the last year, actually.
Since the county and city leadership turned democrat due to the the influx of transplants, liberal "values" have created a town where the police are not allowed to enforce the law, resulting in an ever-increasing amount of daily property crime, vandalism and theft. Even businesses have stopped attempting to prosecute or even stop shoplifters. I know, because people working in those businesses have told me so. Add street bums asking for handouts rather than working to the mix. They are on practically every corner. The town had a convicted sex offender begging for cash, and naïve, ignorant liberals gave him cash. The lack of law meant burgeoning and filthy homeless camps all over town. They live in old campers in store parking lots, which are ignored by store owners and the law.
Sequim and the city leaders thrive on government grants. Million of dollars worth. Grant money has funded an enormous multi-county Methadone treatment center and mental institution here. They have already broken ground on the 20 acres, and in all of their liberal wisdom, placed it smack dab in the heart of town, where 300 or more drug addicts, crazies and felons will soon be wandering the once quaint streets, coming and going as they please.
Hey, might as well mention the millions in grant money already given to begin building low-cost housing to accommodate these miscreants of society. Grant money...do you think it makes it's way to the private lives of officials? Hmmmm.
Transplants and their "stupid is as stupid does" ethos has destroyed Sequim. Instead of a lavender fest, we'll have a drugfest. Maybe a bumfest.
Just like California, here you have the opportunity to pay 1/2 a million dollars for an average home in a slum. And don't bother trying to rent or renting your home. This state makes it nearly impossible to evict bad renters, and afford little protection to the landlord.

Thanks for the heads up! We weren't sure about Sequim but after reading your review, now we know for sure. We're moving to Sequim! Good to know the sunniest place near Seattle is becoming a progressive haven. As a lifelong democrat (and a Latino), I can't wait to look into running for local government. I have a big family too. After reading what you've written it's clear my Mexican family will find lots of opportunities in Sequim. Thank you Don! You've been a big help.

The comments above are simply not true. First, Sequim's mayor and city council are almost all Republicans, and the mayor promotes QAnon. The city police and county Sheriff's Office enforce the law, and violent crime is low. Maybe the writer above could show me a single "filthy homeless camp" in or around town, and I've seen maybe two people in town who regularly panhandle. Yes, property crime has gone up. Are there homeless people here? Of course, show me where there aren't homeless people during this pandemic. Who doesn't know people who have lost their jobs over the past year? They are our neighbors, as are the people in our county who suffer from substance abuse disorder. The clinic being built will NOT be a "methadone clinic" but a state-of-the-art medicine-assisted treatment (MAT) clinic (using several medications shown to be effective in helping these folks work, take care of their kids, etc.), with wraparound services like childcare and dental care. The NIMBY group opposing the clinic uses much the same hyperbole as the writer above, but they have lost every lawsuit and hearing exam case because their arguments aren't supported by medicine, law enforcement (both the sheriff and the city police chief support the MAT clinic and expect few to no additional service demands relating to crime), and many residents. The Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe, in cooperation with several additional local healthcare partners, have designed a beautiful building and campus (where not one person will be allowed to loiter), and security will be provided. A local council of medical, mental health, and law enforcement officials, as well as a local resident, will meet monthly to assess the success of the clinic or identify problems. Fiery comments on social media that demonize the tribe (with remarks like, "It's time to play cowboys and Indians," "We MUST take down the tribe!" and worse), the patients (see above), and the medical experts and law enforcement folks who, while putting a number of significant mitigations in place, have studied the science, public and mental health aspects, and law enforcement issues in similar cities offering this specific level of MAT care and determined that the clinic poses no threat, are switching into high gear as construction begins. I might add that some of the most vocal fear-mongers had no problem taking advantage of the Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe's highly successful COVID-19 vaccination program. Ain't hypocrisy wonderful? By the way, Sequim is located between the stunning Olympic Mountains and the Strait of Juan de Fuca on Washington's Olympic Peninsula. It's beautiful, and you'll love it here.

Fascinating. Click this reviewers name. They just posts the same "liberals have ruined it, homeless people, drug addicts" rants about some lovely places all over the US: Sequim, WA, Livingston MT, Santa Fe NM, Bozeman MT, and "it's great I'm going to move there" screeds about places like East LA and Compton. Plus a 1-star rating of a town he calls "wonderfully diverse". Seems like just some fossilized bigot frothing at the mouth.
