Cape May NJ
Star Rating - 12/27/2014
Cape May is a picturesque pleasant town with a increase in population in the summer months. As a tourist town a good deal of the people who live here make the bulk of their income from the tourist industry. It is becoming harder and harder to operate a business and afford a family in this area. The beauty of the victorian era buildings in the historic district are to be appreciated. The beaches are beautiful however even locals who are subject to very high taxation must pay both to park and for tags to enjoy these beaches. There is a dangerous and well publicized shore break as well.Since many people make the bulk of their income in the summer few have time to enjoy them anyway. There is little organization on a governmental level and in the areas surrounding the island itself.Cape May is becoming more and more commercialized and expensive seeking to distance itself from the local communities which surround it.Family and children are not a focal point to most of those in power on island.Recently Cape May tried to exempt itself from paying local school taxes. The very small farming community is shrinking to the point that it will soon become nonexistent. However surrounding areas still boast many natural preserves. Most people are struggling to pay large mortgages on homes and even businesses whose values are upside down to the point of ridiculous. In conclusion although we locals are totally amazing people in my opinion Cape May is a terrible place to relocate on a limited income or with a large family. If you have a large amount of money at your disposal please do relocate here. Cape May is a must do as a tourist or entrepreneur but perhaps not the best place to try to live a frugal and comfortable lifestyle .
