Review of Manalapan, New Jersey

Great place to live, if you can afford it!
Star Rating - 8/1/2009
I've lived in Manalapan for over 20 years. I've raised 2 children here. It was a great place to raise a family. The schools are decent and we have a high number of kids going to college. If your a teacher, the teacher pay is good too.

We are about 60 minutes from Manhattan. Most of the families that live here have one family member working in Manhattan. You can get there by bus or you can take your car to the train.

Is it affordable? No. Before the housing crash, the housing $$ were way out of control. The property tax rate is rediculous. The state income tax is nuts.
If you want to move here be prepared to spend lots of cash. Taxes and housing are the biggest drains on your income. Food and clothing are also expensive. THe good news is that there is no sales tax on clothes under $500.00 After paying out all the other taxes, who can afford an article of clothing at $500 and above?
