Review of Portland, Oregon

If you like the sun DO NOT MOVE HERE
Star Rating - 6/22/2011
I moved to Portland about 4 1/2 years ago, and I'm not sure what happened, but every time I came up to visit before I moved the weather was BEAUTIFUL. And even the first two years were OK. But the last two years?! HORRIBLE. Everyone keeps saying, Oh, This is abnormal, we usually get more sun. Seriously? I am so sick of the rain and gloom up here. I have lived in Southern CA, Northern CA, and Southern OR, and never once have I experienced the depression that I feel up here for pretty much 9 months of out the year. The summers are beautiful - when it finally decides to show up!! What is typical is that we will have a beautiful gorgeous day, but it only lasts one day, the next it is back to clouds. And I'm not talking a few clouds, I'm talking overcast ALL DAY. What's a shame is that things are going really well for me up here - except for the weather. I get so frustrated and unhappy that my boyfriend and I have almost broken up several times. I do regret my decision to move to Portland. It's a great little city, but the housing prices are unreasonable for what you get, and unemployment is terrible. When you combine all of those factors, it's not good. Our mayor is a total joke, and yes we have RUDE homeless people all over. And heroin seems to be a major problem up here as well. If you need a stepping stone to get you used to a bigger city, Portland is OK temporarily. But if you like the sun as much as I do, don't move here. It's been endless frustration for me and I made the dumbest decision to buy a house a couple years ago. That's not going to stop me from moving though.....but it will makes things a little trickier. This is just my opinion of course, everyone is different and looking for different things in life. I might actually consider staying here for awhile, but I refuse to live my life in frustration for 9-10 months out of the year. Oh- I have to share this too. I honestly think that a lot of hardcore Portlanders are brainwashed to thnking that the gloominess isn't that bad. They tend to get very bent out of shape when you mention that it sucks up here! My opinion is that everyone here has some type of depression going on and they just don't know it. No offense anyone, just sharing my opinion. Anyway, people, check Portland out for yourself...but like I said, if you do enjoy the sun, seriously think about your decision. Becuase once you move here and the gloom sets in, you'll slap yourself on the head over and over again and say Stupid! Stupid! In between popping your Zoloft and Prozak...
