Review of Chula Vista, California

Chula Vista-An Odd Place
Star Rating - 7/15/2011
I live in Chula Vista, California (San Diego County). I've lived here close to eight years now. A very conservative town to say the least. I would call this a military town, as the military base is downtown San Diego (about 30 minutes away). Also there's a state prison just off the 905 freeway, and many other correctional facilities in the area. I was born in the midwest. People are courteous there usually and hospitable; forget it if you're looking for that type of mentality here in San Diego. I've never been around such unhappy/rude people in my life, and I've lived many people. OMG, it's shocking! Something must be in the water. I'm cautious, but respectful and I guess one could say in general, friendly. No kidding, if you say good morning and/or good afternoon to someone here you'll typically get a odd glare or stare, like there's something wrong with You! When I occassionally meet someone with an approachable personality, I asked, "where are you from?" Huh, if they don't ask me first (lol). And like I figured, they are not from this area. Segretation, OMG! I feel like I'm living in old south sometimes... So many drawn in angry if not outright mean faces...; it's sad. Everyone has a bad day sometimes, but geese, can we shake this karma. I sometimes wonder if the negative vibrations from the correctional facilities filter into the town. I'm a spiritual person, and the negative energy here is weighty... Drugs are everywhere; it's rediculous! And the affluent areas are heavely affected as well. There's plenty of night life here, but again, it's not diverse. The beach areas are beautiful; we've had many fun times there. The educational system is substandard. The Mexican population is 90%.
There are many beautiful areas here in SD, CA but it's not a feel-good town.

I live in Michigan. You've described where I've lived most of my life. Several year's on-off I've lived in the Chula Vista, El Cajon, CA area and they are over and above friendliness, much better friendliest then Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti, MI. San Diego and surrounding areas does also have some very rude, disrespectful people but not compared to the area's in Michigan now compared to born and raised around the most pleasant, kind, people in general you could ever be ar. San Diego the greatest population is Mexican and some not all act as though other cultures are invading their lives and do want you gone. Others are friendly, respectful and will carry a small conversation with you if they speak English. I love Chula Vista, CA and will be moving back 2021 from Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti, MI. It's worth the move.

Why is that mostly Caucasian-Americans blame generally people of color whether American or immigrant are the sole cause of degradation of the city or neighborhood when it is the attitude of them toward people of color that makes people uncomfortable. Who made you judge or God? How can you call yourselves spiritual?!

I don't know where you live in Chula Vista but your comments are not true. Most people in Chula Vista are very friendly and I have not seen this big drug problem you speak of. I have lived here for five years and I find it to be a safe city overall. There are some very good schools here in Chula Vista. Like any and all cities in America someone somewhere is using drugs but it's not a problem that all over the streets and corners. Yes there is a large population of Mexican here in Chula Vista but hey we are located only a few miles from Mexico so I think that it would be safe to say that the Mexican population is the largest population in Chula Vista. I have never met anyone here that does not return a greeting, Mexican or others. The Mexican people here are very friendly and helpful. You say you are a spiritual person, but somehow I beleve you are working in the wrong (ungodly) spirit.
